What’s in a name?  Karamatura Counselling is named after a favourite haunt of mine when I was living in New Zealand.  The Karamatura Loop Walk is located in the Waitakere Ranges west of Auckland, and was about 45mins drive from where we lived.  I would often arrive feeling stressed and exhausted. Heading out on the loop walk gave me the opportunity to step away from the challenges and responsibilities of life for a time, and I would gradually begin to unwind. As I continued on my journey, I would discover that I could just be me: free to listen and explore and wonder, allowing the time and place to refresh and restore.  As the trail brought me back to where I started, I would find that I was a little bit calmer, and maybe even a little bit changed.

As M. Scott Peck says, “Life is difficult”.  We all have periods in our lives when our circumstances leave us feeling overwhelmed, stuck, sad, confused, or depressed. Other times we may not even know why we feel the way we do.

At Karamatura Counselling, I offer you a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space where you can step away from the stresses and strains of life, a space where you can just be you.  And I offer to journey with you for a time, to really listen to you and be with you as you explore whatever the challenges that have brought you to counselling.

The journey won’t always be an easy one – sometimes the going will be hard, but my hope is that as we travel together, you will find you are free to be you – free to explore, to find new pathways, see life through a new perspective,  and occasionally even to wonder. And that when you leave, you do so feeling a little bit calmer, a little bit changed and better equipped as you enter the next phase of your journey.
